86% Cabernet Sauvignon
12% Merlot
2% Cabernet Franc
TASTING NOTES:
Bright garnet in color. Savory aromas of smoked game, black and red cherry, fresh-turned earth, and spice. The tannins are still showing structure, with a taut texture overall, a focused acidity, and fruit in perfect measure with leather, mint, and tobacco. While evolving, it still shows a deep core of fruit. Drink now–2030.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM:
94 Points, Wine Spectator
Very smoky, with berry, coffee and tobacco aromas. Full-bodied, with polished velvety tannins, plenty of fruit and a cedary aftertaste. Tight and compacted. This is better than the 2000 Mouton. It's a baby 1986 Mouton. Solid and very, very fine. Persists for a long time on the palate. Best after 2009.
Chateau Mouton-Rothschild
Chateau Mouton-Rothschild is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, with annual production varying between 20-25,000 cases. The vineyards are comprised of gravel on a subsoil of marl and clay. Mouton is one of the last Medoc estates to ferment its wine in oak vats. Maturation is done in new oak casks. Mouton is a complex wine with an exotic character and powerful tannins. The bouquet features black currants, cedar, pencil lead, licorice, and spice. Younger vintages appear opaque or deep purple, while older vintages tend to show more garnet.
