100% Syrah, Northern Rhone
The 2024 Jean-Louis Chave Sélection Saint-Joseph "Offerus" is a classic expression of Northern Rhône Syrah, showcasing the freshness, minerality, and savory complexity that define the appellation.
In the glass, the 2024 vintage is archetypal and racy, leaning into the savory, mineral-drenched profile that only true granite-grown Syrah can achieve. It greets the nose with an alluring perfume of crushed violets, cassis, and black cherry, quickly unfolding into a complex core of smoldering charcoal, peppermint, and graphite. The palate is polished and fluid, defined by a "sapid" intensity and supple tannins that make it immediately approachable, yet it possesses a sturdy spine that promises graceful evolution over the next decade. Whether you are a veteran collector or a burgeoning enthusiast, the Offerus is the essential "cellar protector"—the wine you pull when you want the depth and gravitas of a Michelin-star icon, but with the vibrant energy of a wine meant to be savored tonight.
Jean-Louis Chave took over his family’s domaine in 1993 but as if that wasn’t enough work, a few years later he began reclaiming his family’s hillside vineyards in St. Joseph. These vineyards were abandoned and required re-terracing and re-planting. These are old vines that were only worked by hand or by horse and grown biodynamically on granite.
