Aromas of red and black fruits, strawberry,
blackberry, black plum, violet, prunes. Dry, with medium acidity, medium-body, with flavours of
blue and black-fleshed fruits, blackberry, blueberry, plum, black cherry with floral and spicy
undertones.
Grapes were grown and harvested in the subregion of Pinhel, which is located in the Beira Interior DOC region of northern Portugal. Grapes were vinified at Quinta do Montalto, in the village of Ourem, in
the Lisboa VR region of Portugal.
Varietals: 40% Touriga
Nacional, 40% Tinta Roriz,
20% Alicante Bouschet
Viticulture: Vines were grown on loamy soils with schist and granite. Vineyards were planted in
1995 and farming is certified organic.
Vinification: Grapes were hand harvested, then
gently crushed and loaded into open wooden vats called dornas. Fermentation took place with
indigenous yeasts and 10 days of maceration on the skins. After fermentation the wine matured
for 18 months in stainless steel tanks. No fining or filtration and minimal additions of sulfites.
Annual Production: About 15,000 bottles
