Light mahogany color, with the tones of long barrel aging at the rim and long, slow legs clinging to the glass.
Wonderfully intricate with honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak, and raisin fruit.
The rums used are aged between 6 and 23 years old and are blended together in a solera.
Nose full of apricots, citrus fruits, vanilla, cocoa and bourbon; rich and full-bodied with spicy chocolate flavors and a pleasing tannic bite; very long finish, clean and rich with a lovely liqueur-like density. In the glass, Zacapa 23 has a luscious mahogany appearance with long sticky legs.
On the nose, there are strong notes of vanilla, caramel, dried fruits, and various layers of wood from the aging process. As it hits the palate, there is a smooth transition of full-bodied flavors ranging from honey, to apricot, to nutmeg, to oak, finishing with a hint of spice.
Overall, it’s a beautiful dark rum that holds a steady balance from nose to throat.
