100% Chenin Blanc
Mélaric is located in the village of Doué-la-Fontaine. The appellation of Saumur Puy-Notre-Dame in the Middle Loire region of Anjou-Saumur, South of the Loire River.
Single 1.4ha parcel called ‘Billes de Roche’ of 30-50yo vines, planted on shallow clay-limestone soils over yellow tuffeau (chalky limestone) base. Farming is dedicated to organics and biodynamics.
Grapes are hand-harvested, then direct-pressed before a long, slow fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Aged for 1 year in 400L barrel (most are used, with 5% new barrels), followed by 4 months in tank before bottling. Light filtration using diatomaceous earth.
