Spring frosts are not uncommon in the Jura region, and as climate change progresses, they are becoming more frequent because the vines start to sprout earlier and are therefore more vulnerable. 2021 was a particularly challenging year for Jean-François Ganevat - white wine yields fell to just around two hectolitres per hectare. He therefore combined all the very small harvests of Chardonnay from different locations into a single cuvée. The wine was aptly named Les Survivants - "the survivors". It was aged for four years in large 600-litre barrels on fine lees and was bottled without the addition of sulphur. The result is a concentrated, deep and yet still lively Chardonnay with an expression that bears the imprint of an extremely weak vintage and patient work in the cellar.
