Rich and fruity, bursting with black berry flavours, with subtle savoury notes of cured meat, and a salty drive on the palate. Structured but in no way heavy; peppery, and so, so good.
A powerful wine, concentrated and highly aromatic wine. The silkiness of the tannins allows this to be drunk young, but the wine will probably improve even more given some time. Excellent ageing potential, probably above six years.
Varietals
Grenache, Carignan, Lledoner Pelut, and Syrah
Domaine du Clos des Fees
Former Best Young Sommelier in France turned winemaker Hervé Bizeul has earned kudos across the French wine industry for turning his hand to production, making exciting wines from the abandoned vines he bought in the late 1990s in a forgotten corner of the Roussillon. With some exceptionally old vines (up to 100 years) and some local rare varieties, along with lashings of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, he makes poised, complex, thoughtful wines.
