The head man at Old World Winery is Darek Trowbridge, the grandson of Lino Martinelli (of Martinelli Winery fame). Darek grew up amongst vines, studied agriculture and oenology then when he decided to do his own thing at the family's old vineyard (there are some 100 vines on the ground here), he chose make wines the old way, without a ton of science or intervention, and with a respect for origin and vintage expression. All wines at Old World are hand picked, basket pressed and bottled by hand without any additions. They feel very European in the sense they carry a little more tannin and acid, but it is also what makes them live well longer. The Cabernet had more of a cedarwood and eucalyptus edge along with its blackberry richness.
