93 Points Antonio Galloni “The 2016 Zinfandel Buck Cobb Vineyard shows a riper, more overt side of Zinfandel relative to the other wines in this range. Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, cedar, dried herbs and olives add character. This is a decidedly bold, fruit-driven style, yet the wine retains a mid-weight sense of structure as well as good acidity. Today, though, the tannins are a bit clenched. The 2016 will be an absolute rock star if it opens up a bit more.”
Planted at 1500 feet on the volcanic, granitic hillside near our new property in Amador, the Cobb Vineyard Zinfandel is an homage to Buck Cobb, owner of the vineyard and from whom Turley purchased the Karly property. The rocky conditions and more extreme weather (including snow!) in this dry-farmed vineyard make for a hearty, robust Zinfandel.
