To mark the 120th anniversary of when Giulio Cocchi first made vermouth, the production of Cocchi's original Vermouth di Torino recipe was resumed in 2011. Unmistakably Cocchi in character, Vermouth di Torino is one of only two geographically protected AOC vermouths (the other being Chambery). This Storico Vermouth di Torino follows the regional tradition of using fine Moscato wine as its base, which is then infused with a secret recipe of local and exotic botanicals. Once produced, the vermouth is stored in barrel to ensure the blend is fully married. TASTING NOTES NOSE Singed oranges, candied peel, vanilla, and menthol-tinged dandelion and burdock, backed up by rich berry fruit, sour and bitter cherries with their stones, and overtones of delicate rose petals. PALATE Full-flavoured and thick on the palate – perfectly balanced, bittersweet and mouthfilling. Fruity cherry and menthol notes mingle with stewed raspberries, orange peel, earthy liquorice and subtle savoury herbaceousness – touches of tarragon and bitter leaves. FINISH Bold, long, and well-balanced, with fruit and herbal notes complementing and intermingling. COMMENT Remarkably complex and an obvious cut above most vermouths. It has the classic bittersweet character of the style, but enhanced by layers of fruity complexity and herbal bitterness. A rich and full-flavoured aperitif, and a cocktail ingredient that makes its presence known.
